Tiger in Pench National Park

In 1998, Pench was designated as a sanctuary covering an area of 757.85 sq. km. Later, in 1983, a portion of 292.85 sq. km. was declared a National Park. In 1992, the Government of India declared the entire 757.85 sq. km., including both the park and the sanctuary, as a Tiger Reserve under Project Tiger.

The core area of 292.85 sq. km., known as Pench Safari Park, was renamed Indira Priyadarshini Pench National Park in 2001. The remaining sanctuary area was designated as Pench Mowgli Sanctuary, with an additional buffer zone of 465 sq. km.

Pench Safari India Park gained international recognition when the BBC selected it as the ideal location to document tiger behavior. They used spy cameras in the jungle to film the documentary Tiger: Spy in the Jungle, which was released in 2008 and narrated by Sir David Attenborough.

Additionally, Pench Safari India Park is famously known as the inspiration behind The Jungle Book, the legendary novel written by Rudyard Kipling.
